If you see a puddle of water on the floor in front of your toilet, does that worry you? It should since water leaking from your toilet most likely will be contaminated, carrying disease, and damaging your floor. There are a few different reasons why this could happen, but the three most likely reasons are a loose seat, condensation, or a failing wax-ring. The good news is that you could fix these issues yourself, unlike when dealing with cracks in the toilet bowl. If that is the problem, the toilet needs to be replaced.

If the water is coming down the sides of the toilet, you’re dealing with condensation. While it might be tricky to completely avoid this, a good bathroom fan will do a lot to minimize the humidity in your bathroom.

If the entire toilet seat is loose and rocks when you sit on it, try to tighten the bolts holding the seat in place and possibly shimmy the seat so it is tight. If you do this, you need to be careful, since overtightening could damage the porcelain.

If neither of those situations is true in your case, then you might need to put some extra work in. To replace the wax seal, the toilet seat needs to be removed. While it can be done, it’s not a quick job probably taking a few hours.
