Imagine that you’ve just finished up frying bacon for breakfast. Now you’re left with a pan full of grease. What do you do next? The answer to that question might end up costing you. It seems so easy to just pour that grease down the drain and not have to worry about it, but what can that do to your pipes? As soon as the grease hits the cold water in your pipes, it will coagulate, creating a clog that will be difficult to remove, especially because of the way grease repels water.

There is no safe amount of grease that you can pour down the drain, since it can build up over time. Removing the clog later can do costly damage to your pipes.

What can you do instead? A simple solution is to just wait until the grease cools down on its own and coagulates in the pan. Then you can scrape it off into the garbage. If you don’t want to wait, you can pour it into a metal can, or similar, and let it cool off in there.
