None of us like it when we have bugs in our home. There are usually ways to prevent their entry, but sometimes the source of the infestation might be hard to figure out. If you have small flies, looking like fruit flies, constantly showing up in your bathroom, you might actually be dealing with sewer gnats. When swatted, these flies will leave behind a powdery substance, and their wings are bigger than those of a fruit fly.

Sewer gnats are very resilient, and even though it might sometimes help to pour boiling water or vinegar down the drain to clean out their habitats, it is not always enough.

The best method for clearing them out is using a drain snake, or something similar, to mechanically clean your pipes of debris that will let them breed and feed inside of your plumbing system.

Sewer gnats can even survive bleach and other chemicals, so if you have a serious problem, it might be best to have a professional plumber clean out your pipes for you.
