No one likes to think about their drain lines – until it is too late. Having old drain lines in your home can reduce the flow of water, as they tend to collect deposits over the years and it reduces the diameter of the pipes.
Old pipes also tend to leak, slowly at first, and then faster as time goes on. Most people don’t spend a lot of time in their crawlspace or basement to catch these leaks, so they usually go unnoticed for long periods of time.
The best practice is to be proactive. If you know you have older pipes, why not have them updated. You don’t have to do it all at once, but let’s say you need a toilet replaced. Can you have your plumber (i.e. us) replace some drain lines with it? That is just one example, but be sure to stay on top of this issue to prevent larger problems down the road.
