One of the things that can drive you nuts is when you have a bad smell that you can’t identify or locate somewhere in your home. If this is in your kitchen, it could very well be coming from your garbage disposal. While the garbage disposal is a very useful appliance to have, it is easy to forget that it can collect a lot of organic matter that will then sit and decay, causing odor.

So, what can you do to remedy this problem? To prevent the problem in the first place, you always want to have water running when using the garbage disposal. If you don’t, there is a greater chance for debris to collect, and it also makes it more likely for your garbage disposal to overheat.

Don’t stop the disposal early. Let it run for a few seconds after it sounds like it is done. That will clear out more of the debris from the blades.

Every now and then you can run ice cubes through the disposal to help clean off the blades.
