While having a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink might be a great tool for you when you are cooking, there are things that shouldn’t be run through it. Of course, you might already be aware of this, since most are common sense items, but you would be surprised what some people think they can run through the garbage disposal.

The first item on our list is actually a group – hard items. This means that you should avoid sending peach pits or t-bones down the drain.

Second – eggshells. It might seem like eggshells break easily and wouldn’t pose a problem with a powerful garbage disposal, but they could actually damage the blades and clog your pipes.

Third – Fibrous items. If you have a hard time biting off something because of all the fibers in it, you can bet that your garbage disposal will have issues with it as well. These fibers can wrap themselves up in the blades and your garbage disposal will grind to a halt.

As we said earlier, you can usually figure out what to avoid using some common sense, but hopefully, this gave you some ideas that will help to keep your garbage disposal running.
